DSL prices range from $20.69 to $67.44 a month worldwide. DSL providers vary in how much speed they provide. Most providers offer anywhere between 128Kbps all the way up to 9Mbps. All though these DSL companies offer broadband internet services in every state across the United States, there are still some areas that do not qualify for DSL service. This leaves many consumers looking for a high speed internet service in a quandary wondering what to do.
The alternative for the consumer that is neglected by DSL, is to subscribe to satellite internet service. Satellite internet service works similarly to DSL but instead of using a phone line to send and receive data a satellite signal is employed for data transmission. Satellite internet providers offer speeds up to 2Mbps thus enabling those in rural areas to receive high speed internet comparable to that of DSL.
The costs of satellite internet range between $49.99 a month for residential plans and up to $179.99 a month for commercial and large network installations. High speed satellite internet providers offer an always on connection with no need to dial up. One benefit that satellite internet offers over DSL is there is no need for a telephone line. During this period of electronic advances where consumers are using home telephone lines less frequently many consumers have opted to use only a cell phone. This reduction in discretionary spending by consumers makes satellite internet a better choice for many previous DSL customers as well as those who don't have access to DSL.
